Holland-Controls is currently undertaking a major control system modernization project for a valued client in the offshore oil & gas industry. The project involves upgrading obsolete automation systems responsible for controlling the platform’s essential and emergency diesel generator packages.
The existing generator control systems are based on an OEM industrial automation platform incorporating PCS 7 control software, TIA-based HMI applications, and operator interfaces running on the Windows CE6 operating system. Following more than seven years of service, the hardware and software components have reached end-of-life status and are no longer supported by the manufacturer.
As a result, the systems require modernization to maintain compliance with current cybersecurity standards, ensure continued supportability, and reduce the risk of operational downtime in the event of equipment failures.

A key objective of the project is to deliver a seamless transition while minimizing operational disruption. As part of the execution strategy, Holland-Controls is conducting a comprehensive Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), witnessed by the client, including detailed hardware inspections and verification of graphics and functionality before and after migration.
The project is progressing through the testing and implementation phases, with offshore deployment activities forming an important part of the overall scope. Upon completion, the upgraded system will provide the client with a modern, secure, and supportable automation platform capable of meeting future operational requirements.
