Stadtwerke Münster

Holland-Controls worked on the replacement of the Turbomach systems for two Rolls-Royce RB211-GT-DLE turbine power generation packages.

The old Turbomach control system contained a complex mix of different controllers from different manufacturers. From a design and build perspective there were numerous challenges. Stadtwerke Münster teamed up with Holland-Controls in modernizing and simplifying this system to ensure future functionality and reliability.

Stadtwerke Münster operated two Turbomach generators in a combined cycle power plant with a steam turbine. These supply electricity and heat for the city of Münster.

Each generator consists of:

  • Rolls-Royce RB211-GT-DLE gas generator
    • Exclusively gas fuel
    • Standard design with three Whittaker electric fuel gas control valves
    • A secondary split valve for combustion noise management
    • Whittaker HP6 bleed valve
  • Rolls-Royce RT61 power turbine
  • Allen Gears gearbox for speed reduction
  • Brush power generator
  • The local control room is an integral part of the generator

Safety and superiour performance

Holland-Controls installed a new HC-CORE3 control system during the summer season (as the power plant is mainly needed in the winter season).

Part of the new control system is an integrated safety concept of Siemens S7-1500F. Also implemented is generator metering and protection (Deif), synchronization (HC-QUICKSYNC) and excitation (Basler DECS-250).

For this project a completely new DLE algorithm was developed from scratch which has resulted in superior performance.
