High-Speed Shutoff Valve upgrade on RB211-24G Gas Compressor

For one of our UK, North Sea customers, we completed an upgrade to their fuel gas system. The upgrade involved decommissioning the legacy fuel gas isolation and vent valves, followed by the installation of dual Meggitt High-Speed Shutoff Valves (HSSOVs) and corresponding vent valves. An interstage pressure transmitter was also integrated, alongside several wiring modifications to the Unit Control Panel (UCP). These new valves provide a significantly higher level of safety integrity, improving the system’s capacity to execute a reliable shutdown in emergency scenarios.

In parallel with the hardware upgrades, system compatibility was ensured through updates to the FT125 PCS, ECS, Bentley Nevada, Engine ‘oplims’, and HMI systems, aligning them with the new components. The project was completed within a stringent timeline, with all hardware changes successfully implemented during a one-week Platform Shutdown. Despite concurrent operations, including engine replacement and unit servicing, the critical path was maintained. A series of planning sessions and a pre-implementation survey enabled the efficient execution of this schedule.

High-Speed Shutoff Valve upgrade

HC Services oversaw the entire installation process, which involved:

  • Encompassing mechanical work (valve and pipework installation, bolted flange assembly, small bore tubing installation);
  • Electrical integration (wiring and panel modifications);
  • Installation of supporting software;
  • Pressure testing;
  • And subsequent recommissioning of the RB211 fuel gas system.
